A dwarf Elberta spruce is blessed by the
Rev. Patterson Keller as part of Rogation Sunday
services held Sunday at the Church of the Good
Shepherd.
The Rev. Mr. Keller, in explaining the ser-
vices, said, "In our services this year, we blessed
several animals as tokens of our dependence on
agriculture. We blesed the earth on which we
stand as our way of saying that we know the
earth is that from which all life flows. We
blesed a tree as we planted it as a sign that we
acknowledge our terrible dependence on the
trees and all the plant life of the world."
He continued, "The ultimate meaning of the
blessing is that we acknowledge God as the
author of all life and stress the idea that in order
to preserve and increase the value of these gifts,
we must act as stewards of all that He has
given us, and stop acting as consumers who e,,t
up, throw away and destroy."
