Do .You find yourself avoiding mak- ing a decision and saying instead, 4~ don't care", which really means I want somebody else to decide? One of the important ways of being assertive has to do with showing another person that you bility from the beginning? One assertive way of dealing with this kind of a situation would go like this: "I am inter- ested in going to the movies, would you be interested in going along? I know that we should visit Joe and Betty sometime. but right now I feel like I'd rather go to the show." Part of being assertive has to do with letting the one who has the problem, make the decision about it. If you go around mak- ing decisions for other people for their problems, those people are never going to learn to make their own decisions. So, they will depend on you to make them, and will be constantly asking you to make decisions for them. Unless you're a very special sort of person, you will quickly tire of having to decide for the other person.
