With the roster once more filled, the center will be open again from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., including lunchtimes. Tinaley, who replaced Barb Coy as Public Health Nurse Manager on September 4, has a background in acute reha- bilitation and long term care. She describes her new role as "fantastic timing and a bless- hag," coming so soon after her return to the county and ful- filling her long-held desire to work in preventative medicine. Tinsley grew up in Belle Fourche, married a Texan, spent some time in Montana and moved back to Crook County two months ago. "It's good to be home," she smiles. =le always wanted to work in preventative medicine," she goes on. "To prevent illness ever happening rather than pick up the pieces afterwards. I get to build a one-on-one relation- ship with my patients and get to know them - not just their physical but also their social situations, all the things that contribute to overall health." Deb Worrell has meanwhile taken up the position of Of- fice Manager, moving to Pub- lic Health after two months with District Family Services. Originally from Wisconsin, she moved to Sundance after losing her job at a power com- pany, returning to school and then finding the job posting online. "I have family here, also," she says. "We moved to Sundance in May and we're just about to buy a home here." Worrell's husband will be joining her once the sale of their previous home has gone through and plans to open :a gunsmith store in town. "Public Health seemed :a good fit for me," she explains. "I liked Marlette and Sherry, we seemed to connect. I hope to keep the level of service hre high and be available to h eV as everyone learns together.' "I'm very excited to be here," she adds. I don't like to favor one meal over another, but it is cer- tairdy true that eating a good breakfast is a great way to start your day on a positive note. Skipping breakfast will likely leave you tired and irritable and can lead to overeating later in the day---one possible reason why breakfast eaters are more likely to be at a healthy weight. Eating almost anything is better than nothing, but many breakfast choices are less than ideal. A good breakfast shouldn't drag you down but will have the staying power to get you to your next meal. Here's a quick checklist of things to consider when looking for a good brealast choice (note: this checklist really works well for any meal of the day): * At least three food groups represented, including fruits and/ or vegetables Include whole grains and other high-fiber choices * Include a variety of colors, flavors, and textures Low in salt, added sugar, saturated fats, and trans fats A lot of breakfast meals can satisfy this checklist and I would like to share with you a breakfast recipe that is quite popular in my house: homemade granola. Many granola cereals you find in the grocery store are high in added sugars and fats--making them less-than-ideal choices. Making your own granola is quite simple and allows you to choose the ingredients you like for taste and health. Homemade Flax Granola - Makes 32 (1/2 cup) servings 8 cups (1.5 lbs) rolled oats or old-fashioned oatmeal 2 cups wheat bran sign up eye and tiue donor. Sign up at Driver Services or DonateLifeWyoming.org M I/2 cup sliced almonds I/3 cup sunflower seeds I / 2 cup chopped pecans 1 / 2 cup canola off 1 cup honey 1 Tbsp. vanilla Preheat oven to 250F. In a large bowl, combine all of the dry ingredients. Combine oil, honey, and vaniUa in a saucepan and heat until mixture thins enough to mix well. Pour off mixture over dry ingredients and mix thoroughly (I usually do this by hand). Transfer to baking pan(s). Bake at 250F for 60-90 min- utes, stirring every 20-30 minutes. Remove earlier if you like your granola chewy, later for crispy. Remove from oven, stir, and let cool Store in an airtight container. Time invested: About 2 hours including baking time, but probably only 30 minutes of real work---even less once you get the hang of it. Not too bad for a month's worth of breakfast! Cost: I calculated this at about 25 cents/serving with mostly organic ingredients, even less if you don't choose organic. Add in milk and fresh fruit and you're still getting a great breakfast for less than a dollar. This homemade flax granola combines all the cardiovascular and disease fighting benefits of oatmeal, nuts, seeds, and flax. This recipe is one great way to start your day, but there are certainly many more. Please experiment with this to make it your own. Inside the building will be a lo less windy, muddy and smelly." Work is also in progress to allow composting of dead animal outside the transfer station, in the landfill area. %Ve would to set up more yard waste sites in town to help with that, ant also to prevent that yard waste going into the transfer station says Schommer. On a final note, residents placing their garbage in bags w be very important to the success of the transfer station.
