Haste does make ,waste... Just ~because i~ is getting a bit late in the plantin,g season is no reason one should throw caution and good sense o the wind and drill your winter wheat carelessly. I do see same ranchers getting in a big rush and drilling winter ~vheat just to get seeds in the .ground. Seed in the ground will not do much good if you don't do your best job of farming to conserve your soil and by all means your moisture. ~t really doesn't take much ex- tra time ,to swing around ~here and drill at right angles to the slope. True that it will soon be fur coat weather bttt their is still --This fellow's wife kept badger- ing him for a fur coast. He finally 'told :her, "If the good Lord had intended for you Co have a fur coat, you'd have been born with one!" There is still ,plenty of time to get your wheat seeded and do it properly. If you farm so you can hold at least two ,thirds of your rainfall righ~t where it lands, your crop will have an average of at least twelve inches of moisture to grow on. If you only hold one third o,f it on the land - ~hat is an average of .only six inches of moisture and Vhat isn't enough to raise much of a crop. Farm so you can hold al~l of your rain- all on ,the land and you can in- crease your yields ,by using com- mercial fertilizer. Farm less land for 'he same production and you can put ~he rest o grass and pas- ture it. 'On the conto~ar. Ninety degrees to the slope. Use a deep furro~v drill and you can do a real job of holding your moisture and con- serving your soil. Those nice smooth flowing con, tour drill rows are beatttiful to behold. A warm welcome to everyone from Security Trust & Ph. 283-1182 Co. Sundance To this nice looking curvaeious young gal on the diagnostic table. "You have acute appendicitis.',' She replied, "'Listen, Doctor, I came here to be examined, not 'admired!" Keep it on the contour. Some- thing to admire ....
