Reminder: Potential still exists
for salmonella poisoning
The Wyoming Department of Ag-
r/culture (WDA) is reminding con-
sumers to return anySchwan's ice
cream they may have in their
freezers to their route driver for a
NOVEMBER 17, 1994
refund or exchange.
Persons having Schwans ice
cream should contact their driver.
Under no circumstances should
anyone eat this ice cream accord-
ing to the Wyoming Department of
Agriculture.
The WDA has received about 25
complaints of salmonella poison-
ing from consumers around the
state who may have eaten the ice
cream.
Persons who have been ill and
believe it was from Schwan's ice
cream should contact the Wyoming
Department of Health.
The food poisoning outbreak
which has been reported around
THE SUNDANCE TIMES PAGE 3
the country, allegedly came from a
tanker truck that was used to
transport raw eggs. The truck was
not sanitized before it was refilled
to carry pasteurized ice cream mix
to the Schwan's Marshall, MN
plant.
The cross-contamination allowed
the salmonella from the raw eggs
to infect the ice cream mix which
was ready to freeze. Schwan's has
now changed its procedure to re-
pasteurize all ice cream products.
Schwans has cooperated fully with
government authorities during this
recall.
Anyone with questions about the
ice cream products should call
Schwans at 800-544-6855.
